Srikakulam to go Singapore way

 Srikakulam, one of the most backward districts in the State, is all set to take the lead from Singapore. 

The Ministers representing this district, along with the district Collector were advised by the Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to follow the Singapore model of development. 

The Chief Minister on the second day of the two-day Collectors’ conference on Thursday, asked the officials to draw inspiration from Singapore and develop the district. He wanted them to prepare action plans, identify local resources and execute the works in coordination to develop the district.

He said that Srikakulam was eight times the size of Singapore with a population 50% lesser than that of Singapore. The district can take advantage of its 197 km coastline, said the CM and added that the sea coast can help to increase the GDP if the Ministers worked with commitment and vision. 

Stating that the sea food industry had a global market, he asked officials to focus on the industry in the district. Minister K Atchannaidu who hails from the district said that they would work hard and develop the district in the next two years. 

He said they would prepare an action plan with the available resources and would also identify the sources for establishing industries in the district. He promised to take the initiative for the overall growth of the district. 

The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of works in all the districts with the Collectors and instructed them to identify areas of growth and prepare action plans accordingly.
